say the words we're feeling
Only Exception (One Shot; Jogan; Angst)

Alright, so this is my very first Jogan. I would like your honest, honest opinions but please be easy on me, alright. I am not forgivemeannabelle or storiesbycandlelight, and I don’t pretend to be as amazing as they are. I do hope that I at least did their ship justice. I, hereby, dedicate this fic to them for giving me the courage to try my hand at this wonderful ship, which I do, very much, sail.

To you, girlies. I hope it brings you as much joy/sadness as your fics do each and every time.

The Only Exception(Dalton!verse Jogan )

Logan stared blankly out the window, watching the rain drizzle outside, his mood reflecting the dim gray morning perfectly. Many people entering the common room to get a bit of homework or socializing in before class quickly left it in a hurry at the sight of Logan. They knew well what that mood meant. It wouldn’t have been any more clear if he’d been wearing a bright neon red sign flashing avoid at all costs. They also knew that at least one party responsible for their prefects mood was none other than Kurt. As for any parties otherwise involved, well, their were plenty of options. The most likely runner up was Logan’s ex-boyfriend Blaine, who was busy these days playing house with the Warbler countertenor and definitely not thinking of Logan at all. Kurt, who was also not thinking of Logan, unless the older male purposefully placed himself in the younger boy’s path, was busy being happy in his brand new fairytale land.

Logan turned away from the window, crossing the room to the grand piano, taking a seat on the bench as his fingers began to dart across the keys with fluid, practiced strokes. He played only, his voice as silent as his heart, blue eyes barely seeing as he watched his fingers move, alone in his own bleak world.

Hazel eyes watched intently from the doorway where their owner leaned against the polished oak frame, his arms crossed over his chest. Julian could feel his heart break again as he heard the pain ringing out with every note his best friend played. He swallowed hard, closing his eyes as he began to sing in a sweet, soft whisper. It was low enough that no one, not even Logan could hear. Only he could hear the way his words wavered, and his voice choked with each word.

When I was younger I saw my daddy cry,
and curse at the wind.
He broke his own heart and I watched,
as he tried to reassemble it.

He fell silent as Logan’s voice filled the still air, his words perfect and chilling and frightening. They were filled with so much emotion and need and desire, and Julian could only stare in awe like he did each and every time he heard the boy sing. Really sing. It seemed that these days the only time he really sang was when Kurt was around, or taking over his mind.

And my momma swore
that she would never let herself forget.
And that was the day that I promised
I’d never sing of love if it does not exist.

Julian felt his fingers as they dug into his arms, hissing softly his complete annoyance. Did Kurt not care that every time he just waved away Logan’s feelings, the Stuart prefect swam deeper and deeper into himself and the chaos and soon he would drown in it? Was he so selfish that he couldn’t give Logan a chance? Damn him, and his self-righteousness.

But darling,
You are the only exception.
You are the only exception.
You are the only exception.
You are the only exception.

Logan and Julian sang the chorus together, the blond unaware to the fact that he had a duet partner and Julian wishing that Logan would just turn around and see him, finally realizing that he was the one. He, and not Kurt Hummel, was the one. His reason for living. His exception. Julian opened his eyes and watched Logan, not surprised when the boy fell silent as if to allow a duet partner their solo. Julian took the offer though he knew that in Logan’s mind it was not his to take, it was for the countertenor.

Maybe I know somewhere
deep in my soul
that love never lasts.
And we’ve got to find other ways
to make it alone.
Or keep a straight face.

Julian fell silent as Logan sounded off with the next part of the verse, his fingers falling silent as his hands stilled. He now sang A Capella, his voice still carrying with ease. Each and every word caressed the actor who felt tears in the corners of his eyes and bit his lip hard, choking them back.

And I’ve always lived like this
keeping a comfortable distance.
And up until now I’ve sworn to myself
that I’m content with loneliness.
Because none of it was ever worth the risk.

Logan stood and moved back to the window, his eyes looking off in the distance. Julian didn’t need to hold a degree in rocket science or even psychology to know that it was Windsor Hall that held Logan’s attention. Julian hated this. Each and every time, it was he who was there, right at Logan’s side and ready to help in any single way he could. It was why he had come back after he had promised to never return. Well, that was one part of it. There was also the fact that he could never stay away for long. Logan always called him back even if he was unaware of it. Together, the two took up the chorus again., Julian singing just a little louder but not loud enough to allow his voice to carry to the blond.

Well you are the only exception.
You are the only exception.
You are the only exception.
You are the only exception.
You are the only exception.

Julian closed his eyes and gave himself to the songs and each of the words he sang. He didn’t realize that as he did, he sang louder and in the middle of the next verse, Logan stopped singing. The blond spun to find his friend standing there, pain on his pretty face as he sang the words that he thought he’d been singing to himself.

I’ve got a tight grip on reality,
but I can’t let go of what’s in front of me here.
I know you’re leaving in the morning
when you wake up.
Leave me with some kind of proof it’s not a dream.

Tears began to stream down Julian’s pale face, his lips trembling as he sung the last chorus, deciding to leave out the last two lines because he was not on his way to believing in love because the one time he decided to give himself to the feeling, love betrayed him, allowing him to fall for someone who would never look at him in the same light.

You are the only exception.
You are the only exception.

He allowed his voice to trail, giving into the ironic sense of peace that settled around him. He smiled softly yet sadly to himself, opening his eyes. He had planned to leave before Logan realized that he had an audience but when his eyelids lifted to show the sharp hazel orbs beneath them, those eyes met blue across the distance and Julian felt his heart drop.

One word fell off those lips that the celebrity had longed to kiss for so long.

Julian felt his insides cramp as fear blanketed over him and butterflies erupted in his stomach. He could feel his face heat up and angrily cursed himself for staying here when it was quite obvious that Logan wanted to be alone. As much as Julian wanted to flee right now, Logan’s gaze would not allow him to and so his feet stayed rooted to the spot. Silence fell where music had rung only moments before and then finally, amazingly, Logan spoke.

“Julian… I never realized…”

There. Those icy, cold and beautiful eyes released him and Julian did the only thing he could do, the thing that he was the very best at.

He ran.
